WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TEAM ADELAIDE?
Our organization wouldn't be able to support as many girls as we do each year without hard work from hundreds of community volunteers. Team Adelaide consists of the volunteers who have already coached with us and want to give more to the organization. They come to our office to sort practice materials, refill coach totes, stuff envelopes, help with administrative tasks and interview potential new coaches. They also support our teams by visiting practices, mentoring coaches, serving as substitute coaches and helping us make connections with new schools that are interested in bringing Girls on the Run to their girls.
HOW DID TEAM ADELAIDE GET ITS NAME?
Adelaide (or Addy) was the first girl to complete the Girls on the Run program in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Councils across the country call this group of hard-working volunteers "Team Adelaide" to honor Addy and GOTR's history.
IT'S MY FIRST SEASON COACHING. CAN I JOIN TEAM ADELAIDE?
We welcome all coaches who have completed at least one season with Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole. Each summer, a new application opens for Team Adelaide and coaches who have completed the spring season are invited to join.
I HAVE COACHED WITH ANOTHER COUNCIL, BUT NOT WITH PORTLAND METRO. CAN I JOIN TEAM ADELAIDE?
We love welcoming coaches from other councils to join us! If you have completed a season with another council, please mention it in your Team Adelaide application.
IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN JOIN TEAM ADELAIDE?
If you were a staff member at another council who has recently moved to Portland or if you have served on a GOTR Board of Directors (in Portland or another city), we would love to get you involved as a volunteer, either on Team Adelaide or in another capacity.
