Volunteer and Make a DifferenceHOME

"Thank you for providing such a wonderfully, healthy place for girls. You are helping to shape the world with bright, confident, healthy young women. "

Our team of volunteers represents a dynamic group of women, including teachers, athletes, businesswomen, and mothers - all of whom possess a great enthusiasm for helping to prepare girls for a healthy and happy adolescence and adulthood. Volunteer opportunities are available for program coaches and assistant coaches, running buddies and assistants at our 5K race, and general operational volunteers.

If you are wondering, what is a running buddy, then look no further! A running buddy is a chaperone and a mentor to one or two girls through her two 5K experiences: the Practice 5K (at our program site) and a community 5K event, 2-3 weeks later. All you have to do is keep pace with your Buddy, ensure her safety, and cheer her on!

Each Girls on the Run participant looks forward to having "her own" Buddy for the events. Maintaining consistency by running with the same person for both events contributes her overall experience of mentorship and encouragement.

If you would like to get involved in any way and help to make a difference with young girls throughout Portland Metro, simply fill out our volunteer questionnaire and send us your completed application. All new volunteers will be thoroughly screened and trained before beginning to work with our girls.

Prospective running buddies should also complete a background check form and online registration.
